Finding a Breeze
Commissioned by Arizona ACDA for the 2023 Cantaremos Treble Honor Choir
Jess Edelbrock, conductor
Finding a Breeze is about breaking free from the weight of negative thoughts and being lifted up by positive ones. It begins in the middle of a sleepless night, with self-doubt racing through the speaker’s head. Dreams of flight break this cycle. Inspired by a new perspective, we fly freely toward the horizon, and encourage our listeners to do the same.
At the end of the day, I am lying awake again.
I replay all I say, every little mistake again.
Turning a moment into more than it means.
Oh, how I wish I could just dream it all away.
Just dream...
I close my eyes, and I am flying,
Over the river, over the tops of the trees.
All my fears falling behind me,
Finally free, when finally finding a breeze.
At the start of a day, who can say what’s awaiting us?
And the plans that we make have a way of escaping us.
Let go of the past, cut through the strings.
Let yourself spread your newfound wings and fly away.
Be free!
Close your eyes, and you’ll be flying,
Over the river, over the tops of the trees.
All your fears, feel them subsiding,
Finally free, when finally finding a breeze.
Keep going.
Stay strong.
Believe.
Believe that you can do this.
Challenge yourself.
I can help you.
I am here for you.
I will lift my voice flying with song.
Close your eyes, and you’ll be flying,
Over the river, over the tops of the trees.
All your fears, feel them subsiding,
Finally free, when finally finding a breeze.
I replay all I say, every little mistake again.
Turning a moment into more than it means.
