Covered with Snow
Covered with Snow depicts a slumbering winter landscape that is awoken by the springtime dreams of the speaker. A rhythmically active piano part supports a haunting melody that changes tonality to paint the text.
This piece was originally written for the 2017 Gettysburg Children's Choir Summer Camp. It was designed to be a satisfying work for a wide variety of singers (3rd through 8th grade), and can serve as a vehicle for teaching and performing valuable musical concepts with limited forces and rehearsal time.

Nature is sleeping,
Creatures lie low,
All the world covered,
Covered with snow.
With frost on the windows
And ice on the lake,
The warmth of my cabin
Brings welcome escape.
In front of the fire,
Asleep on the floor,
I can dream of a place
where it’s winter no more.
A wide open meadow,
A stream in a glen,
Or the trees with their leaves
Full of green once again.
I hear a bird singing,
I feel the sun’s glow;
But still, all is covered,
Covered with snow.
Creatures lie low,
All the world covered,
Covered with snow.
